KENYA: Remittances from abroad drop by 36.5 per cent

Kenyans abroad remitted Sh3.1 billion ($39.5 million) last month, data from Central Bank of Kenya show.

This represented a 36.5 per cent drop compared to more than Sh4 billion ($53.9 million) remitted in January last year.

The data also shows a sustained decline in the amount remitted into the country over the past one year. Read more

  1. I corrected this writer for portraying a very distorted figure but no correction was ever made neither the correct image printed elsewhere if he felt he had egg on his face.

    Kenyans remitted more in January 2008 than 2009 because of the fracas that erupted after the 2007 elections. For the record, 2009 YTD, Kenyans have remitted more than 2008 YTD, thereby proving that January 2008 was an exception.

    Responsible journalism is foreign to Kenya.
